TRAVIS, Staten Island (WABC) -- Investigators are trying to figure out what caused a deadly 10-car pileup on Staten Island Sunday that left one person dead and 12 others injured.
Police now say that an elderly female driver that caused the pileup had a minor accident, then drove off and hit multiple vehicles waiting at a red light, causing her car to go airborne.
She is one of two people who were critically injured.
The crash occurred Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Travis Avenue in the Travis section.
A 74-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
First responders used the jaws of life to cut several victims from their cars.
