MASSAPEQUA (WABC) -- Police are investigating several dead chickens on Long Island.

According to Nassau County police, on Friday a passerby in a remote area of the Massapequa Preserve reported finding one injured chicken and several other chickens that appeared to have been dissected with their entrails pulled out.

There was some evidence of a ritual involving candles and a yellow bandana nailed to a tree, police said.

The injured chicken was taken by Town of Oyster Bay Animal Control.

Police ask that anyone with information about the case call 1-800-244-TIPS.
