ITHACA (WABC) -- An Amber Alert issued out of Ithaca, New York, has been canceled after police say the two children who were abducted by their biological father have been found safe.

The Tompkins County Sheriff's Office activated the alert and was investigating the incident, which occurred near Heron Drive around 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The children are identified as 2-year-old Violet Thorne and 4-year-old Brian Thorne. They were removed from their father's custody by Family Court due to his history of substance abuse, child abuse and neglect.

Police say the suspect, 38-year-old Leonard Thorne, failed to surrender the children and had taken them to unknown location. They were located Wednesday.

Anyone with any information on this abduction is asked to call the Tompkins County Sheriffs Office at (866)N Y S-AMBER or dial 911 to provide information on a report or sighting.
