Knife-wielding robber strikes for the 22nd time in Forest Hills Subway shop robbery

FOREST HILLS, Queens (WABC) -- An armed robber who has been hitting up stores in Queens and on Long Island since March is striking again with his 22nd robbery. The latest robbery happened Friday night, robbing a Subway sandwich shop in Forest Hills, Queens.

Police and crime scene officers were called to the Subway in Forest Hills around 9 p.m. Friday after a man with a knife walked in demanding cash from a young cashier. Eyewitness News spoke off-camera with the father of the teen who was working alone, and say his son was 'scared for his life' when the man presented a knife. The cashier forked over $100 cash from the register. The teen was not injured, but the suspect's description match the profile for a man police have been hunting for for months.

Earlier this week, investigators believe the suspect his another Subway in Bayside, Queens. They have also connected the same person to two Dunkin' Donuts robberies in the past week. The same suspect, they believe is behind seventeen Long Island robberies dating back for months.

The suspect is described as between 5'7" and 6'0 tall, weighing 170 pounds, wearing two different sneakers, and two different gloves in some incidents.

"He walks in, produces what looks like a large butcher knife that he uses on each one. He puts it back in his pants leg when he leaves," says NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce.

After each incident, investigators say he walks several blocks off so he can't get the car he comes in. Police believe be drives a car, gets back on the parkway, and is gone.

The FBI is also investigating the robbery pattern. Anyone with information on any of the incidents is asked to call police.
