BRONX (WABC) -- The Bronx Zoo is welcoming its newest residents, a trio of siblings that are extremely rare.
The three Komodo dragons, sisters Rose and Ivy and brother Stubby, will now make their home in New York City after traveling from the Los Angeles Zoo.
They are part of the zoo's newest habitat, Amazing Monitors, which opened this weekend.
The last Komodo dragon at the Bronx Zoo died in 1959.
Komodo dragons are the world's largest living species of lizard, and the 5-foot-long, 30-pounders cam grow up to 9-feet long and weigh as much as 300 pounds.
Bronx Zoo Director Jim Breheny says the exhibit may educate people on just how intelligent and inquisitive the slithering lizards can be.
The dragons are native to Indonesia, and there are only an estimated 2,500 left in the wild.
