EXCLUSIVE: Woman opens up about terrifying Manhattan subway attack

GREENWICH VILLAGE, Manhattan (WABC) -- It all started as a fun night out with friends for Bonnie Currie, until she and a friend left the bar early Friday morning.

"And then we walked together to 14th Street, at which point we parted ways, because she needed to go east, and I needed to go west," says Currie.

Currie was by herself when she walked into the subway station. She admits, typically in the middle of the night she stays above ground, but this night, she went downstairs - and got attacked while she was on the platform.

"I was grabbed from behind. He wrapped both of his arms around me, and then pulled me into his body, and he put one hand on my boob, and the other hand in my crotch. He basically pushed me," she says.

She asked the man to get off of her - in less words, but she didn't have much time to react.

Surveillance cameras captured the suspect that police are now looking for, but Currie barely got a look at him.

Currie had to be taken to the hospital where she needed surgery. Screws had to be put into her broken wrist, she has a torn ligament in her shoulder, and plenty of bruises.

While she is anxious for police to catch the man who assaulted her, Currie says she refuses to live in fear.

"We shouldn't have to change our lives as women - this happens. I think the important thing is to speak up," she says.

Currie is thankful to the woman and two men who ran to help her when they heard her screams - getting her off the tracks before a train could come.
