FORT LEE -- Some New Jersey police officers showed their soft side when they came to the rescue of a baby deer Thursday.

Workers at a gas station in Fort Lee called police about a fawn that was all alone for three days.

Officers recalled that an adult deer that had been struck by a car was found dead a few days ago near where the baby deer was discovered. They believe this to be the fawn's mother.

The baby male was dehydrated.

Officers got him into a box and gave him food and water.

The fawn is now on his way to a deer preserve in Newton, New Jersey.
