The man went into the water to rescue a teen that was in distress in the East River Friday night, after he and two other teens jumped off a pier.
The teens entered the water at Gantry Plaza State Park, at 45-40 Center Blvd. in Long Island City, Queens, around 7:30 p.m.
The man then jumped into the water to help rescue them but the three teens made it out on their own, and the Good Samaritan was unable to get out of the water, officials said.
Police then jumped into the water and rescued the man.
4 people were taken to Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical center with non-life threatening injuries
