COPIAGUE (WABC) -- Suffolk County police rescued two men from the Bronx who ran a newly-purchased sailboat aground.

The men were marooned in the Great South Bay for nearly 27 hours, west of Elder Island in Copiague.

They bought the boat on Saturday in Bay Shore and were headed to City Island when they got stuck.

A full day later, a resident who lives across from Elder Island noticed the stranded boat and called police.

Paramedics treated 39-year-old Luis Cosme and 46-year-old Jose Llanos at the scene for exposure.
