Hit man reveals mafia assassination plot against former NY Governor Mario Cuomo

A hit-man told the Guardian newspaper that the Sicilian mafia planned to kill Mario Cuomo when he visited Italy back in 1992.

Maurizio Avola says the assassination was meant to be payback for the U.S. providing mob informants a safe haven overseas.

The hit was eventually aborted because of the governor's security detail.

Reportedly there is an open investigation into the supposed plot.
