BROOKLYN, N.Y. (WABC) -- Police have arrested a man they say was impersonating a police officer when he attacked a woman earlier this week.
Jason Forgetta, aka Jason Torres, 37, of Brooklyn, was arrested Friday on charges of rape, robbery and criminal impersonation of a police officer, according to the New York City Police Department.
On July 30 around 2 a.m., a 26-year-old woman met Forgetta in the Sunset Park area of Brooklyn and the two began talking. The suspect showed the victim a gold shield and identified himself as a police officer. The victim invited the suspect to her room, where the suspect raped her, according to the NYPD.
Police said Forgetta then stole the victim's cell phone, money and pocketbook, and fled. The victim was treated at an area hospital for her injuries.
Investigators found that Forgetta had several addresses but did not stay at any one address permanently; he did have a regular place of employment, though. He was arrested in Brooklyn.
Anyone who believes they were victims of Torres should call (212) 741-8401.
