HOUSTON -- A man is in critical condition after an accidental shooting on Houston's south side.

Patrick Sanders, 20, was sleeping on a couch at an apartment in the 4700 block of Wenda Saturday morning when police say a gun fell out of his pants pocket and fell to the floor. As Sanders woke up, a three-year-old boy picked up the gun. Sanders saw the child with the gun and he tried to grab it from the boy.

At that time, the gun went off and Sanders was shot in the face. He was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he remains in critical condition. The child was not injured.

The investigation is continuing.
