Vigil held for deli worker killed when officer's gun stolen in Bronx

BEDFORD PARK, Bronx (WABC) -- Relatives are demanding answers in the death of Bronx deli worker who was killed by a suspect who allegedly grabbed a police officer's gun.

A vigil was held Friday night outside the deli in the Bedford Park section, where 49-year-old Wali Camara was shot dead 10 days ago.

He had crossed the street to another deli to help, as officers escorted out an unruly customer.

Police say 30-year-old Efrain Guzman grabbed a gun from an officer's holster and opened fire, killing Camara.

"We need answers. How was he able to take a gun away from a police officer, which is supposed to be very secure?" said Mody Doucoure, the victim's brother.

"Why was this perpetrator not handcuffed before he was dragged out of the deli by the police officer whose gun was snatched," said Sanford Rubenstein, the family's attorney.

Guzman, who was shot by police but survived, faces charges including murder.

The NYPD has not taken any disciplinary action against the officer whose gun was snatched.
