Mysterious oil spill at Sandy Hook Bay

SANDY HOOK, N.J. (WABC) -- There's a mysterious oil spill off the coast of New Jersey.

The oil, about one mile long and 400 yards wide, was spotted Thursday afternoon on the northern side of Sandy Hook Bay.

The "light sheen" stretches is approximately 300 yards wide by 2 miles long, according to the Coast Guard. It's not clear where it came from.

Horse Shoe Cove is the only sensitive area that could potentially be impacted by the sheen. The slick appears to be on the bay side.

The Coast Guard is trying to figure out the best way to contain and clear it.
