ORCHARD BEACH (WABC) -- Three people were struck by lightning at Orchard Beach in the Bronx as dangerous storms rolled in the area during Labor Day Weekend.
It happened just before 5:00 Sunday evening near the handball courts. The site of the bolt of electricity from the sky caused some panic.
Police closed the beach for safety reasons.
The 3 victims were rushed to Jacobi Medical Center to be treated for their injuries. They are said to be alert and conscious. There was no further word on their condition.
Back on the beach, the Labor Day Weekend crowd scattered after being shocked by Mother Nature.
