Hotel apologizes after denying veteran a room due to service dog

GROTON, Connecticut (WABC) -- A hotel in Connecticut has apologized to a U.S. veteran who was denied a room because of his service dog.



A worker at the Days Inn Hotel in Groton told the Marine vet and his family they could not stay because dogs weren't allowed.



When Derrick Ferrington's wife told the clerk "Chesty" is a service dog, it didn't matter.



"She very, very strongly said, 'I understand that it's legal, but it's our pet policy,'" said Meagan Ferrington, the veteran's wife.



Ferrington needs a service dog to help with his post-traumatic stress disorder.



The manager of the hotel has apologized, saying it was wrong to deny a service dog.
