NEW YORK (WABC) -- By election day, millions of Americans will have already voted, in early voting.
Four years ago just 30 percent of people voted in person on election day and 69 percent voted early or by mail.
As early voting got underway this weekend in New York and New Jersey, more than 140,000 people voted in New York City on Saturday, making it the city's highest early voting on day 1 voter turnout ever.
Brooklyn had more than 40,000 people vote early on Saturday, over 38,000 in Manhattan, over 16,000 in the Bronx, over 31,000 in Queens, and over 13,000 in Staten Island.
Voters say nationwide that the economy, immigration, and abortion are the biggest issues that they care about.
A new ABC poll showed voters trust former President Donald Trump on issues when it comes to immigration and the economy.
Vice President Kamala Harris fared better on issues regarding abortion and the threat to democracy.
All three states will offer early voting until Sunday, November 3.
New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams was among early voters in Brooklyn early Saturday.
"This is awesome. I'm very impressed to see this and I've been watching the news and it looks like there's lines all over the city," he told Eyewitness News.
"So excited about that. That people are engaged. I'm hoping to see lines like this all around the country."
New Yorkers are just as fired up as Williams. Voter Pamela Patur said she is focused on getting the youth to the polls.
"I'm really enthusiastic about getting young people out to vote to influence them and have them understand that their vote counts," she said.
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont is among those who have already taken advantage of early voting. He cast his ballot Friday morning in Greenwich.
Lamont tried to vote Monday on the first day of Connecticut's early voting, but instead, he posted a photo of the long line and decided to put it off until Friday.
