New Jersey officers dress up as shrubs to catch distracted drivers on their phones
DUNELLEN, New Jersey (WABC) -- Did you spot any odd-looking shrubs while driving in New Jersey on Wednesday? If you didn't, you might have been on your phone.
The Dunellen Police Department dressed up as shrubs to catch distracted drivers in the act.
Officers placed themselves on North Washington Avenue, a highly trafficked, pedestrian-heavy downtown area.
At this location, officers issued 74 citations to drivers they say were distracted by their devices within a six-hour period.
It was an effort to enforce New Jersey's Handheld Cell Phone Law.
Now officers are reminding drivers to keep their eyes on the road.
