CHICAGO -- A 25-year-old New Jersey man is accused of causing eight crashes on Interstate 57 in Chicago earlier this week in an alleged road rage incident, Illinois State police said Thursday.
State police received reports of multiple crashes on northbound I-57, starting at 127th Street Tuesday morning.
Hassan A. Moutassim of Jersey City allegedly drove his semitrailer recklessly on northbound I-57, resulting in the crashes.
After the last crash, Moutassim got out of his truck, police said.
He reportedly pulled a driver out of a crashed vehicle and began beating him, according to police.
He also allegedly tried to strangle him, police said.
Moutassim was taken into custody, and the victim was taken to a local hospital with injuries.
Moutassim has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery on a public way and aggravated battery-strangulation, police said.
He's being held pending a court appearance.
