NYC council members push to keep AMC Theater in Kips Bay open amid NYU Langone's land purchase

KIPS BAY, Manhattan (WABC) -- Some local lawmakers are making a push to try and keep the AMC Theater in Kips Bay open.

The land where the theater is located was bought last year by NYU Langone and the theater is now set to close by the end of the year.

But on Friday, Assemblyman Keith Powers, along with Representative Jerry Nadler, several councilmembers and the Manhattan borough president, sent a letter to NYU Langone asking them to come to the table to discuss ways to keep the theater open.
