Rooftop wall collapses on worker in Brooklyn

CYPRESS HILLS, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A worker was killed after a parapet, or a rooftop wall, collapsed on him at a one-story garage in Brooklyn on Tuesday afternoon.

It happened just before 3 p.m. at 113 Sunnyside Ave., a one-story garage that shares a lot with a six-story building at 224 Highland Blvd. between Bulwer and Heath Place in Cypress Hills.

Officials say the parapet wall fell on the back of a 58-year-old man who was located on the roof of the garage.

The victim was removed from the collapse via aerial ladder.

He was pronounced dead at Brookdale hospital.

Department of Buildings inspectors did not find any damage at the roof or the interior of the garage.

The DOB issued a full stop work order for all construction and repair activities at 113 Sunnyside Ave., and a partial vacate order for the garage roof in the area where the incident occurred.

Inspectors also issued a violation to the property owner for their failure to maintain the structure.

The DOB's investigation into the incident is ongoing.
