Passenger bus rolls over on New York State Thruway in Ulster County; 10 people injured
PLATTEKILL, Ulster County (WABC) -- Ten people were being treated for non-life-threatening injuries after a passenger bus rolled over on the New York State Thruway on Tuesday morning.
It happened around 9:20 a.m. in the southbound lanes at mile marker 69.5 between Exit 18 and Exit 17 in the town of Plattekill.
A preliminary investigation determined that the bus was traveling from Schenectady to New York City with the driver and over 20 passengers on board, according to officials.
Ten passengers were taken to area hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Uninjured passengers were taken by bus to a reunification center established by the Ulster County Office of Emergency Management, officials said.
They say the driver, identified as 44-year-old Zhangrong Wang of Woodside, Queens, showed no signs of impairment. No tickets have been issued at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
During the emergency response and investigation, the left lanes in both the southbound and northbound directions were closed for several hours. The scene has since been cleared, and all lanes have reopened.
New York State Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information regarding the incident to contact the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Highland at 845-344-5300.
