Police investigate shooting involving off-duty NYPD officer on Staten Island

ELTINGVILLE, Staten Island (WABC) -- Police are investigating a shooting involving an off-duty NYPD officer on Staten Island.

It happened around 10 p.m. on Williams Ave. and Hylan Boulevard in Eltingville.

Law enforcement sources say the suspect came up to an officer and there was some kind of an encounter. That officer then reportedly called her boyfriend -- who is also an officer. When he arrived, there was some kind of a dispute and he shot the suspect several times.

The suspect was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Sources say the suspect had some kind of a weapon.
