Apollo Theater honored ahead of African American Day Parade

HARLEM, Manhattan (WABC) -- There's less than a week until the African-American Day Parade kicks off in Harlem.

The Schomberg Center held a preview event Saturday night where there was a discussion with parade marshals and a plaque presentation to the Apollo Theater-an honoree at this year's parade.

"This parade brings us together," said Yusuf Hasan, chairman of the African American Day Parade. "We shine the light on the brightest and the best of our community."

Festivities start on Sept. 19. The main event is Sept. 20 from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
