Manhattan prep school teacher accused of having sex with 16-year-old girl at East Village nightclub

EAST VILLAGE, N.Y. (WABC) -- A prep school teacher has been charged with rape for having sex with an underage teen at an East Village nightclub last month.

Police arrested 34-year-old David Azurmendi, of Summit, N.J., at his home Wednesday. He works as a teacher and coach at Leman Manhattan Preparatory School in Lower Manhattan.

According to police, Azurmendi had sex with a 16-year-old girl inside the bathroom at Lit Lounge on Second Avenue on June 19.

Police said Azurmendi met the teen through other female students, but the victim is not believed to be one of his students.

The victim told a friend what happened, and the friend contacted police.

Azurmendi was charged with third-degree rape.
