Pedestrian struck and killed by cement truck in Astoria, Queens

ASTORIA (WABC) -- A 60-year old man was struck and killed by a cement truck while walking in Queens Wednesday.



The accident happened at about 12:15 in the vicinity of 34th Street and Northern Boulevard in Astoria.



Investigators say a Mack cement truck driven by a 29-year old man was traveling westbound on Northern Boulevard when it struck the pedestrian, who was crossing the roadway southbound.



The victim was taken to Astoria General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.



The driver remained on the scene, police say, and EMS and the NYPD's Highway District Collision Investigation Squad are investigating.



The victim's identity has not yet been released.
