NEW YORK (WABC) -- A Rikders Island correction officer is recovering after being stabbed by an inmate.
Officials say the inmate used a pen to stab the guard in the ear.
The Department of Correction says it's investigating this most recent incident, just days after five other officers were attacked at Rikers.
Guards had to use chemical spray to regain control of the unit and rescue the beaten officers.
In a statement, the Department of Correction said:
"This assault on our officer was unacceptable. Such attacks against the hardworking men and women who serve in our department will not be tolerated. We have zero tolerance for assaults on staff and are deeply committed to creating a culture of safety at the Department of Correction. This inmate will be arrested and face serious charges. An investigation is ongoing."
