ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (WABC) -- Two firefighters were hurt while battling a large, smokey fire in Long Island Thursday morning.

The flames broke out at a home on South Long Beach Road in Rockville Centre just before 10 a.m. According to firefighters, the blaze possibly was started in the basement by an oil burner. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The two firefighters suffered minor burns, and one may have suffered from excess smoke inhalation.

Flames were shooting out the windows, while huge plumes of smoke were sent high into the sky. Firefighters had to fight the blaze from outside the home because the first floor became compromised.

A neighbor says that one of two women who live in the house was home at the time.
