NEWARK -- Rutgers University is making its Newark campus more affordable for some low-income students and county college graduates.

The university announced last week that it's covering tuition and fees for Newark residents who are accepted to the campus and have a household income of $60,000 or less. Now, it is making the same offer to low-income students who transfer to the campus after completing a two-year degree from county college.

Tuition and fees at the campus is about $13,600. But students with family incomes under $60,000 are already eligible for grants to cover some of the cost. Officials say the difference made up by the school will be about $4,000 per student.

The campus is also offering similar benefits to those accepted into its new residential honors program.
