MINEOLA (WABC) -- Police are searching for the gunman who shot and killed a man in his own driveway on Long Island.

"I see them in the window and they're trying to fight and the guy says, 'Give me the money,'" said Miguel Ventura, the victim's brother.

Miguel Ventura tells Eyewitness News the next thing he heard was a loud bang and saw his brother fall to the ground on their front lawn in Mineola. His family says he is an immigrant who moved to the U.S. from El Salvador.

43-year-old Oscar Granados had been shot just inches from his front door. He was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene.

"We hear the explosion. I don't see anybody outside. I don't know where they went," Ventura said.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. Sunday on Roslyn Road.

Granados had just taken a cab from Hempstead back to his house.

Police say the family has told them that Granados, a father of two, gambled frequently but don't know if that had anything to do with his murder.

"That's obviously one of the venues we're checking, but we're not saying that led to his death," said Det. Lt. John Azzata, of the Nassau County Police Department.

Police are trying to retrace Granados' final steps.

The last time anyone saw him was around 5 p.m. Sunday.

Four hours before he was gunned down.

His family is at a loss.

"He goes out and works. He's a working man. Working seven days a week, painting. The rest we don't know. We don't follow everybody's life. But he was a very good man. A very good man," said Juan Valente, the victim's brother-in-law.

Investigators said the suspects fled from the location, one wearing a black bubble jacket armed with a silver handgun. It was not known if the suspects got away with anything.

Police spent several hours Sunday night searching the neighborhood with dogs and helicopters.

Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this crime to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
