Professional skier talks about terrifying caught-on-camera fall down mountain

NEACOLA, Alaska (WABC) -- A professional skier miraculously survived a terrifying 1,600-foot fall down a mountain, and now, he's speaking out about the experience.

Ian McIntosh can be seen plummeting down as cameras and microphones caught every painful bump and grunt.

"It felt like an eternity," McIntosh. "It really did. I thought this was never going to stop."

McIntosh was on Alaska's Neacola Mountain Range filming the new ski movie "Paradise Waits" when he mistakenly skied into a 5-foot trench and wiped out.

"It surprised the heck out of me," he said. "I had no idea that was coming. I knew at this point, it was game over and I was going for the ride of my life."

That's the very moment you hear him clearly cry out "Oh no!"

"It felt like I was getting hit by linebackers the whole way down the mountain, over and over and over again," he said. "Full sprinting linebackers."

To soften the blows and prevent major trauma, McIntosh had the presence of mind to deploy the airbag built into his backpack.

After falling for nearly a minute, McIntosh finally came to a stop. And amazingly, other than a few bruises, McIntosh was uninjured and undeterred.

"I don't want to die," he said. "I don't have a death wish. I am not the type. But I do wish to live life to the fullest and go out there and live my dreams, and this kind of stuff is what I dream about. What I lay awake thinking about."
