MAHWAH, N.J. (WABC) -- They are going from serving their country to serving the people of their county.
Four military veterans were sworn in Tuesday night as Bergen County's newest police recruits at a ceremony in Mahwah.
The chief has made it a priority to hire veterans because of their experience.
Three are former marines, and another served in the army as military police.
"Of course they have a different set of standards compared to civilian law enforcement, but I do believe just being able to perform the job in the military has set me up for success as a Bergen County police officer," said James Farrar, a Bergen County Police recruit.
The officers will join more than 100 others on Friday for their first day at police academy.
