TAMPA, Fla. -- Alex Rodriguez nailed his first homer of his comeback, slamming a 3-1, 89 mph fastball off of righty Brandon Workman in the fourth inning of the New York Yankees' exhibition game against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday afternoon.

Rodriguez, who entered the at-bat with four hits in his initial 10 at-bats, launched the ball over the left center field wall at George Steinbrenner Field. Of Rodriguez's five hits, it was his second for extra bases. The other was a pop fly double.

Rodriguez started Wednesday's game at third base. It was the second time he had played there this spring training.

If A-Rod is on the Opening Day roster, he is expected to primarily be the DH. Chase Headley, barring injury, will be the starter at third. Rodriguez might try first base during the spring, but hasn't played the position during a game yet.

Rodriguez, 39, was suspended all last season after for his involvement in the Biogenesis performance-enhancing drugs investigation.
