LONG BEACH (WABC) -- The former New York Yankees condition coach who told Congress he injected major league pitcher Roger Clemens with steroids more than a dozen times was arrested on a drunken driving charge on Long Island Monday morning.
Nassau County prosecutors say Brian McNamee was taken into custody just after 8:30 a.m. on East Walnut Street in Long Beach on charges including driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired by drugs and unlicensed driving after he crashed into another vehicle.
Police say McNamee rear-ended a car stopped at a traffic light after he exited a gas station and attempted to cross over two lanes of traffic. Both drivers were alone in their vehicles and no injuries were reported. Responding officers observed McNamee to be intoxicated and placed him under arrest.
McNamee, who represented himself at his arraignment, was released on $2,500. He faces a maximum of one year in jail on the top count.
McNamee sued Clemens for defamation in 2008 after the pitcher said McNamee lied and manufactured evidence when he accused Clemens of using banned performance-enhancing drugs. The suit was settled in March.
