Giancarlo Stanton, Josh Donaldson homer in returns; Yanks fall

LOS ANGELES --Giancarlo Stanton and Josh Donaldsonboth homered in their return from lengthy injury absences Friday night, but the New York Yankeesfell 8-4 tothe Los Angeles Dodgersin the opener of a three-game interleague series.

Stanton, playing in his first game since April 15, hit a 417-foot shot to center field in the fourth inning. Donaldson hit two homers in his first game since April 5: a 446-foot shot in the second and a two-run homer in the ninth.

"Felt nice to have some pretty quality ABs today," Donaldson said. "Obviously, it's been frustrating not being able to play, but I can't really do too much about that anymore. Hopefully I'll put my best foot forward moving forward."

Stanton, a Los Angeles native and childhood Dodgers fan, had been sidelined by a left hamstring injury, while Donaldson had been out with a strained right hamstring.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said both veterans are likely to play in two of the three games this weekend in Los Angeles.

Reliever Tommy Kahnle, who had been sidelined after developing biceps tendinitis in spring training,madehis season debut for the Yankees on Friday, allowing one hit in a scoreless inning.

"Good to see them here and part of this," Boone said of the trio. "They've worked hard to get to this point, so excited to get them back in there and get going."

Carlos Rodón had a 30-pitch bullpen session Friday in Los Angeles that went well, according to Boone. Rodon has been out since spring training due to a sore left forearm and a back injury, but the $162 million left-hander should be ready to face live hitters soon.
