Stanwich School students injured when bus hits tree

GREENWICH, Conn. (WABC) -- A bus driver and at least 13 students from the Stanwich School in Greenwich were hurt when the bus they were riding on crashed into a tree.

According to school officials, the injuries include a hip fracture, various head injuries and broken bones. All 14 patients were taken to Greenwich Hospital Emergency Room and Stamford Hospital Emergency Room, according to a statement from Greenwich Police Department. None of the injuries appeared life threatening.

"For a yet to be determined reason, the bus driver swerved across the road and struck a very large tree located on the west side of the road," said the statement. No other vehicles were involved in the crash which occurred on Stanwich Road.

The school is for kindergarten through 12, but students kids on the bus appear to be high school students.
