NEW YORK (WABC) -- Two workers were shot by a pair of masked gunman in an attempted robbery of a Staten Island bagel store Thursday morning.

"To come in and shoot guys for no reason, they didn't take anything, you know we just would have gladly said just take the money and they didn't even have to hurt anybody ," said Jennifer Nazir, the store owner.

Two men wearing face masks burst into the Hot Deli Bagels Deli on Arthur Kill Road in the wee hours of New Year's Day. They were quick to flash their guns and quick to use them.

"One guy standing here he got shot in the shoulder, one guy was shot in the stomach," said Tony Nazir, the store owner.

When told to hit the floor, one deli worker ran to a back room on instinct.

"He run to the kitchen, and the one gunman followed him into the kitchen and shot him," Tony Nazir said.

Another employee, who just happened to be on the phone at the time, was struck in the shoulder.

In the bottom left hand corner of the screen on the surveillance video you can see his feet hit the floor.

"Two went down and hit the floor, and one of the guys he got hit and he's on the phone, and he maybe didn't understand him or whatever and the guy shot him," Nazir said.

Surveillance video outside shows the suspects leaving the deli in the Arden Heights section of Staten Island around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

The NYPD wants to find these suspects for shooting two unarmed men.

"Everybody loves them in the neighborhood. We've been getting so many calls, texts, emails, just making sure that they are OK. Everybody is just so upset that this happened, they are such nice guys," Jennifer Nazir said.

Both victims are in stable condition at Staten Island University Hospital, North.
