NYPD: Staten Island man shot estranged girlfriend before killing self

LIGHTHOUSE, HILL, Staten Island (WABC) -- Police are investigating the shooting deaths of an estranged couple from Staten Island as a murder-suicide.

The NYPD said the bodies of a 71-year-old man and 68-year-old woman were discovered inside a house on Spruce Street in the Lighthouse Hill section just before 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said the woman recently ended the couple's 20-year relationship, and the man left the home.

Detectives believe the man returned Wednesday morning with a gun and shot the woman before shooting himself. Both had gunshot wounds to their heads and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not yet released the names of the couple.
