SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- Two people were arrested after they allegedly tried to sell a stolen English bulldog to its original owners.
San Bernardino County sheriff's officials say the dog was stolen during a strong armed robbery in San Bernardino on Oct. 17.
The suspects, identified as 21-year-old Jamill Slaughter and 19-year-old Carla Martinez of San Bernardino, then listed the dog for sale on Craigslist for $2,500. Friends of the dog's owners alerted them after they saw the listing.
The owners contacted the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. With the help of investigators, they posed as prospective buyers and arranged to meet the culprits at a public parking lot in Fontana.
Detectives conducting surveillance saw the suspects take the dog out of their car. After the owners identified the dog, deputies made the arrests.
The dog was returned to its rightful owners, and Slaughter and Martinez were booked into the West Valley Detention Center for possession of stolen property.
It wasn't immediately known if the two are suspected of stealing the dog.
