Mother of 5 killed in shooting outside Brooklyn club
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Authorities are investigating the death of a mother of five who was caught in gunfire outside a Crown Heights club over the weekend
Eyewitnesses say 33-year-old Sofronia Hartzog was struck by a bullet as she was running from a nightclub on Howard Avenue in Crown Heights around 2 a.m. Sunday.
The owner of the bar says Hartzog was bleeding and collapsed near the door to the bathroom.
She was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where she died.
Hartzog's family said she was a mother of five, with children ranging in age from 6 to 18, and worked in direct support for people with special needs.
Sources told Eyewitness News a large crowd of about 200 people had gathered at the intersection and [url HREF="https://abc7ny.com/post/woman-killed-man-wounded-early-morning-brooklyn-shooting-dispute-police-say/19687416/" TARGET="_blank" REL="nofollow"]a dispute broke out shortly before the shooting[/url].
Investigators told Eyewitness News on Monday that they are looking into the possibility that Hartzog may have been the intended target.
A 34-year-old man was also injured in the shooting. He was struck in the stomach and is recovering at Kings County Hospital.
Authorities are working to determine if he may have been a target too.
The NYPD has identified a person of interest in the shooting.
Police have not announced any arrests, and investigators are working to determine what led to the shooting.
