NEW YORK (WABC) -- Police in Manhattan are searching for a group of people who viciously attacked a straphanger on a subway train.
The victim was riding the D Train near Grand Street in Chinatown early Saturday morning on his way to work, when three men and two women picked him to be their next victim.
"They want to kill me basically, they wanted to stab me more times, but they didn't get the chance," said Roberto Hernandez.
Hernandez was left beaten, stabbed and bruised.
"They just asked me for money. I told them I didn't have any, so I just got attacked," he added.
The five suspects walked out of the subway as if nothing happened.
First, the three men started punching and hitting Hernandez, then one of the men turned to one of the women and asked her for a knife.
They stabbed Hernandez in the chest, on his head and slashed him down his arm. They also beat him in the face.
Hernandez was treated for the knife wounds, and is feeling a little sore, but is thankful he is alive.
