TEANECK, N.J. (WABC) -- A New Jersey man is now facing charges in a deadly hit and run on Christmas night.

62-year old Stalin Kappil turned himself over to police Saturday, hours after police released a surveillance photo from the crash in Teaneck.

Kappil is accused of leaving the scene after hitting 59-year-old Steven Leitgeb.

The victim later died in the hospital. Kappil will be in court on Wednesday.

Teaneck police say the accident occurred around 6:45 p.m. on December 25 in the area of Cedar Lane and Garrison Avenue.

Witnesses say Leitgeb was struck by a 2003-2005 Black Honda Pilot that fled the scene.
