ABERDEEN (WABC) -- A construction worker was killed in a crash on the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey early Wednesday.

State police say an SUV hit two workers in the northbound lanes in Aberdeen about 1:20 a.m.

Cesar Desouza-Caetano, of North Bergen, died at the scene. His co-worker, 60-year-old William Heise, of Rockaway, was treated and released at the hospital.

The SUV driver, 21-year-old Marc Senatore, of Nutley, also went to the hospital.

Investigators say he was driving in the center lane when, for some reason, he crossed into an area marked by cones and ran into the back of construction equipment.

State police spokesman Trooper Jeff Flynn says Senatore hit the equipment, which then struck the workers and a pickup truck.

The crash remains under investigation.
