DIX HILLS, N.Y. (WABC) -- A man killed when the car he was driving was struck by a wrong-way driver in Suffolk County is being remembered as a hard worker who was dedicated to his family.

Sarwan NN, 60, of Smithtown, was driving on the Northern State Parkway Oct. 20 at about 2:40 a.m. when police said 25-year-old Brittany Vella, of Middle Island, drove the wrong way and crashed her pickup truck head-on into NN's car in Dix Hills. Both drivers died at the scene.

Police said Vella was fleeing from officers who were trying to pull her over for a traffic violation. They believed she could have been under the influence.

NN's family said he was a pios man, a man who worked 7 days a week driving a cab just to put his son through medical school.

"He was a very religious man. He worked hard to put us through medical school," said his son, Ranjit Singh.

Friends said NN was on his way home from work when the crash happened. He had just dropped off his cab and got into his personal car and was heading home.

"He's a very nice man, a very nice man," said one of his friends. "We don't believe yet."
