HUNTINGTON STATION, Long Island (WABC) -- An LIRR train with no passengers on board hit a car on the tracks Monday morning, causing service on the Port Jefferson branch to be suspended in both directions.
The train struck a car at an LIRR grade crossing in Huntington Station.
The front section of the vehicle was struck at the Pulaski Road crossing, just west of the Huntington station.
A woman in the car sustained a non-life-threatening injury and her car was removed from the tracks.
LIRR says there is apparent no rail damage and service resumed on the Port Jefferson Branch, with residual delays.
The LIRR says its data shows that the gates were functioning normally, though the motorist claimed to investigators that the gates didn't work.
