Minor train derailment disrupts subway service in Brooklyn
BRIGHTON BEACH, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Subway service was disrupted Friday by a minor train derailment in Brooklyn.
A conductor noticed the train at the Brighton Beach station had a wheel off the tracks.
The MTA says the second truck of the second car of a southbound Q train came off the rails at about 8:55 a.m.
About 135 people were on board at the time. A reach train responded to the scene.
"Those customers were safely walked through the train, through the incident train, and were able to safely platform here at Brighton Beach station where we had buses available to continue their journey," MTA Interim Executive Director Ronnie Hakim said.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
"There is a slight curve in the track here," Hakim said. "From the initial visual impression, there is no immediate cause that immediately comes up."
The train was re-railed around 1:45 p.m. and was on the move by 3 p.m. The rails were also inspected to see if repairs were necessary.
One person, a pregnant woman complaining of back pain, was taken to the hospital to be evaluated. No other injuries were reported.
