BEDFORD HILLS, N.Y. (WABC) -- A tanker carrying oil has overturned in upper Westchester County and it is leaking the oil.

Hazardous materials specialists descended on the rural area in Bedford Hills.

The truck carrying home heating oil overturned at around 4 p.m. Monday afternoon on Bedford Center Road.

The truck was heading uphill, around a bend on the icy and snowy road, when it lost control and flipped over.

The driver sustained only minor injuries.

Hundreds of gallons of home heating oil could be seen spilled in the snow on the roadway.

The snow turned red from the dye used in home heating oil.

Public Works crews built a little mountain out of snow and sand to stop the flow of the oil down the hill.

"It appears it did not reach the drainage system, any catch basins, or any environmentally sensitive areas, so it shouldn't be too bad for a restoration company to clean up," said Kevin Winn, of the Department of Public Works.

The spill happened on one of the only roads through the very rural area making it tough for people who live in the area.
