Young family runs 50 year-old Jamaican-Chinese bakery in Crown Heights

CROWN HEIGHTS, NEW YORK -- Located in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, Tropical House Baking Company was created by Dennis Young, a Jamaican Chinese baker. Today, the bakery is a community staple known for their fresh bread, savory patties and assortment of Caribbean baked goods. The Young family has owned and operated this business since the 1970s, recently celebrating over five decades of operation.

Once Young had to retire, he and his wife, Susan Young, tried to sell the business, but their sons said no. James and Ernest Young, now co-managers of the bakery opted instead to carry on their fathers legacy and hold on to a business that had been in their family for decades.

Today, the business that has been a significant part of Dennis and Susan Young's life still stands, owned and operated by their two sons, a pillar of Caribbean community in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

You can visit their bakery at 267 Schenectady Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11213.
