Some traffic lanes reopened on Flatbush after water main break in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn

PROSPECT HEIGHTS, N.Y. (WABC) -- Some lanes have been reopened near a water main break in Brooklyn, affecting mass transit in the area.

On Flatbush Avenue, two lanes of traffic are being allowed through.

Crews are trying to pinpoint the cause of the 12-inch break, which happened just before 8 p.m. Friday at Flatbush Avenue and St. Marks Place in Prospect Heights.

The MTA was also concerned about water getting into subway stations and tunnels below, but crews quickly shut off the valves.

"The issue is the location, being on Flatbush Avenue," said FDNY Deputy Chief Vinny Mandala. "Bus routes, train routes, it's a bustling area and that always creates issues. Hopefully they'll have it back sooner rather than later."

There are some water outages.

The break disrupted mass transit in the area, but subway service is operating as usual again. A handful of bus routes are running with delays.
