Lightning strike ignites car fire in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY (WABC) -- Officials in Hudson County say a lightning strike ignited a car fire in Jersey City Monday morning.

The lightning struck a transformer at JFK Blvd., causing a fire that jumped to a car.

The car burned into the roadway causing damage to the road.

County engineers are on the scene assessing the damage.

Drivers are being asked to avoid the intersection of JFK Blvd. and Linden Avenue.

The northbound lane of JFK Blvd. will reopen later Monday, while the southbound lane will reopen when repairs are complete.
